Journeys of Faith

Grounded in faith. Taking flight. 2010 Capital Appeal

From now through May, you’ll find stories of faith shared by members of Peace United Church of Christ. You’re invited to share your own thoughts and stories. It’s an invitation rooted in faith and hope for you, our greater congregation and the wider ministry we serve.

What is this Capital Appeal about?
Phase III is a continuation of our journey as a faith community. It’s an invitation to support our ambitious goal of raising $400,000 toward paying off the $650,000 loan used to construct our sanctuary and lower level chapel/youth room. These spaces were completed and lovingly dedicated in 2008. Now, we face the real challenge of repaying our debt in a way that allows us to fully live our mission as a community serving God.

Reaching our goal will take determination and commitment by all of us. With faith, inspiration and action, we believe and pray that our wonderfully generous Peace Church community will make it happen.

What does it means to pay our debt?
At a basic level, paying off the cost of building a new sanctuary means we make good on the loan. That action, in turn, frees us to do more good in the many ways you choose.

The reality of the current economy raises the question: what if we didn’t create an appeal to pay this debt? Turning to our operational fund, which pays for ongoing expenses and mission work, to pay an estimated $6,000 per month in loan payments is untenable. Reaching our goal of fully funding our debt obligations will allow us to do everything we’re doing now, and hopefully more.
